I just got back from a wedding party. I’ve been attending several wedding parties in Indonesia since I left America, and I just realized how we, Indonesian people, don’t understand manner, etiquette, and dress code very well.
Can you imagine people coming to your wedding party with polo shirts, jeans, and sneakers? Some are just wearing their office uniforms. Some women cannot match their purses with their shoes properly. The youth people coming to the wedding party wearing window-shopping-in-the-mall dress. Sigh……… if I were the groom, my heart would be very much disappointed to see how my party turns out.
Based on what I saw in the movies (well, you can’t really trust movies), people in America know how to dress for a wedding party. Even when I was living in America, people go to church with the so-called Sunday Dress. Guys are wearing suits, or at least shirt and trousers with jacket while the ladies are wearing dress.
Now, let’s talk about the food. In a wedding party over here, there are several specialty food stands other than the main course. Commonly, the must-have-stand is the Grilled Lamb Stand. If this one is your favorite, better stand near the stand during the party ceremony (brides walking down the red carpet, brides cutting cake, brides kissing, etc.) because I can assure you that after the master of ceremony announce the audience may enjoy the food; you will find the dish is out within 5 to 10 minutes, unless the caterer provides well enough.
Anyway, when we are talking about food in a wedding party, people are taking advantage of wedding party invitation. Some people (I think I’m one of them) eat like they haven’t ate for one week. They eat all the menus provided, although they could not finish what they took. As for me, I always be responsible with the food I took to my plate. I eat them all! (hehehe…).
I love to eat and I love basically any kind of food. I’m a food adventurer. Tonight, I tasted all kinds of food that really favors me in the eye: Grilled Lamb (off course!), Shiu May, Crab Asparagus Soup, Main Course (there were about 7 different menus), and Chicken Satay. I ate within the normal amount of each categories (believe me), except Shiu May. On the other hand I also have a thought that I ate like pig because I felt my stomach is very full (up until this very moment).
Well, I think I have to learn to behave and be more dignified in a party such as those. But, overall, I think the gap between Indonesian people and American is basically the education level. It’s the bottom line which affects all aspects of life. I’m not saying that Indonesian people are uneducated people, but they are just less educated than American. That’s the reason why Indonesia is in the third-world countries list or in the developing countries list.
Well..well..well…. just take the stuff easy. I think it’s time for bed already.
